C4C’s best year ever – for the 3rd consecutive time! Over 72 million CZK rendered in 2012, adding up to over half a billion CZK in direct aid rendered since inception!
We said it time and again, though crunching numbers is not the most favorite past-time of any of our highly motivated team members, everyone had to agree in the end – it was worth our time doing it (again). And, the results are well worth publishing!
“Adding up the direct aid rendered by C4C since its inception, the cumulative total has surpassed half a billion CZKs”, remarks Nadja Kreckova, C4C’s CFO for the better part of a decade. “That’s just incredible!”
“It’s been rewarding watching C4C grow from what amounted to not much more than a hobby of my personal family – intoone of the biggest Czech Non-Profits”, reflects Manfred Franke, C4C’s founder and chairman. He continues: “At times, though, folks tend to give me too much credit for all that has been accomplished. Honestly, I just got the ball rolling in the beginning. C4C’s success and impact has mainly been due its incredible team, our staff and volunteers – folks with amazingtalents, vision and enthusiasm for our cause: They and our dear sponsors are the real heroes here!”
So, with a sense of thankfulness and gratitude to all those who have helped C4C in its efforts to make this world a better place and the playing field a little more level for those less fortunate than others, here’s how C4C performed in 2012: (for simplicity’s sake, we’ll use the same matrix as in previous years, dividing things up between our three separate programs. Caution: depending on what web-browser is used, columns may not be perfectly aligned…):
SPRINGBOARD TO LIFE
The program provides orphaned and institutionalized children, once they reach teen age, with educational opportunities through extra-curricular vocational classes & courses – to help them in their quest to integrate into society and be successful in the job market. The program also offers socialization and integration events, like theater and musical evenings, bowling tournaments, etc. to open up new horizons for institutionalized children and help them adjust to life in society, after exiting their respective institutions, usually when they reach 18 years of age.
This year’s special events included the Musical “Cinderella on Ice”, and special performances for institutionalized children by C4C partner Original National Circus Berousek and many other special occasions.

The program targets the growth and well-being of children in need. Partnering with multinational corporations and local business, the initiative creates nurturing environments for institutionalized childrenwho live out their childhood and youth in usually chronically underfunded government and private institutions.
It is also one of the program’s aims to improve the quality of life of institutionalized children nationwide, by providing for them, amongst other things, fashionable apparel, shoes, etc., to boost their self-esteem and confidence and help them to be on equal footing with their peers in school.

DR. CLOWN:
It’s a fact proven by serious and peer-reviewed scientific studies that laughter can be therapeutic and helpful during recovery from illness and injury. The Dr. Clown program focuses on providing comic relief to hospitalized children, helping them to on the path of recovery through Dr. Clown’s popular “Smile Therapy”! The team also aims to establish what we came to term a 24/7 Dr. Clown presence in participating hospitals: distributing Dr. Clown coloring books, installing Dr. Clown Corners, Computer Stations, Floor Games and training nurses as Dr. Clown “Agents”. During these seminars and workshops nurses learn, amongst other skills, magic tricks, balloon sculpturing and the importance of light humor in their interaction with children.
“Besides our normal clown visits, special emphasis continues to be give to C4C’s recently established cooperation with the LEGO company and consequently the LEGO foundation“, says Rafal Wojas, C4C co-founder and director of the DR. Clown program. “Their more than generous contribution and commitment has enabled us to just about supply every hospital with children’s wards in the country with LEGO toys.” The LEGO company has so far donated more than 6 million CZK worth of Lego toys to the Dr. Clown initiative.
