The Dr. Clown team, visiting the children’s ward of the Vinohrady hospital, was in for a shocker today: the TV crew of TV Barrandov dropped by for a surprise visit to document the wonders of Dr. Clown’s “Smile Therapy” for their daily 90 minute news program.
“We heard so much about the Dr. Clown program. We just had to come and see for ourselves”, says Marcela Skabova, chief news anchor of the popular and up-and-coming TV station. The footage will be aired tomorrow, Wednesday the 18th between 5.30 and 7 PM, in conjunction with an in-depth report about C4C’s activities in the Czech Republic and elsewhere, during TV Barrandov’s 90 minute daily news broadcast.
“It’s nice to see our efforts being noticed”, smiles Rafael Wojas, director and producer of C4C’s Dr. Clown program, “but our clowns are not doing this for public recognition, of course!” The team of clowns powering the Dr. Clown effort insists that the smiles and happy faces they encounter during their visits are all the recognition and reward they need. “There is this warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you help these kids forget the strange hospital environment and overcome their sickness. You know you’re being part of something meaningful”, Rafael adds.
At first a little shy, the children soon warmed up to the presence of the cameras and the TV crew. The clowns demanded their full attention, so the running cameras were soon forgotten and time literally seemed to fly by.
“It’s amazing to see how Dr. Clown captivates the children and literally transports them into another dimension”, comments Marcela after the cameras were packed away again. “The team is just incredible to watch!”
