Representing Chance 4 Children, Petra Erguvanli and Michal Jírů proudly accepted the 2024 Dům zahraniční spolupráce (DZS) Award in the Participation category. This prestigious recognition honors the exceptional execution of the Chance to Discover EU project, which has made a meaningful and lasting impact on society.
What is the Chance to Discover EU project?
Now in its second year, this project has enabled 40 young people to embark on educational journeys abroad, helping the young adults to acquire a „European State of Mind“…. These experiences have helped them develop practical skills, confidence, and the courage to step out of their comfort zones, make new friends, and communicate their personal stories. Most importantly, the project has broadened their horizons and given them a new perspective for their future.
Over the past two years, we have successfully completed eight of these journeys, fostering a community of young people transitioning out of children’s homes and working towards independent living and societal integration.
The Birth of the Rise Up Community
Out of this project, the Rise Up community was born. Today, it has over 45 members and continues to grow. Rise Up connects young adults leaving institutional care, providing them with support, mentorship, and essential skills for independent life.
“The Chance to Discover EU project has given us a deeper understanding of young people on the brink of adulthood as they prepare to leave children’s homes. We have seen their hopes, fears, and determination—and this is what drives us forward. This award is more than just recognition; it’s proof that what we do matters. But the greatest joy comes from knowing that these young adults feel they are not alone on their journey. That gives us all the strength to continue,” says Petra Erguvanli, C4C project manager.
DZS 2024 Award: A Huge Success for C4C!
The DZS Awards are a prestigious recognition that highlights exceptional educational projects with a broad societal impact. This year, 36 projects and 12 individuals of almost one thousand applicants were nominated, with 16 experts selecting the winners.
“We often underestimate our work, thinking it’s nothing extraordinary. But then, an award like this comes along and reminds us that what we do really does make a difference.” says Michal Jírů, C4C special projects coordinator.
A Heartfelt Thank You from one of our Participants
We leave you with words from one of the young people who took part in the project:
“Huge congratulations and a massive thank you! Because of you, we had this incredible opportunity and life-changing experience. What you have done is priceless—it has brought so many smiles, lessons, and new knowledge. You deserve endless gratitude!” “ says Lucie, a foster care participant.
A big thank you goes to everyone who is part of this project! Together, we are changing young lives for the better! And to give credit to whom credit is due: We’d also like to extend a heart-felt Thank You to DZS for creating and implementing the incredibly meaningful projects they are offering to organizations and individuals. They are so very much appreciated!
