Code of Ethics for fundraising personnel of Chance 4 Children z.s. (hereinafter C4C)
I. Purpose of the Code
1. Responsibility towards C4C and its interests
C4C is a non-profit organization established under the laws of the Czech Republic, whose purpose is to develop activities aimed at helping youth, children and seniors who live in institutions, are ill or socially disadvantaged.
The Code, as an internal document, stands alongside generally applicable labor regulations for each of the organization’s employees and external collaborators and is a basic description of the ethical standards, the respect for which is the philosophy of C4C. Each of the employees and external collaborators of C4C is aware that respecting the ethical dimension of work, and therefore his own good name, is important for the perception of the seriousness of C4C and possibly other brands that the organization produces or plans to produce.
2. Responsibility to the donor
Just as each member of the C4C team is responsible for the obligations of the organization, they must also honor their responsibility to the donor. The C4C team as a whole and individual employees undertake to act in accordance with ethical standards, to provide the donor with true, unbiased and complete information, as well as to handle the received donation in accordance with the purpose of the donation to the best of their knowledge and conscience, the C4C statutes and the law of the Czech Republic. As the name C4C implies, special emphasis is placed on helping needy children and youth who live in institutions, are ill or socially disadvantaged. In recent years, C4C has expanded its activities to include helping disadvantaged seniors. C4C helps all those in need regardless of race, religion, nationality or social status. In accordance with the C4C approach, the Fundraiser protects the donor’s personal data and privacy in accordance with and within the limits of the legal order.
II. Fundraiser policy Chance 4 Children z.s.
1. All communication between the fundraiser and the donor is open, truthful, and complete.
The C4C fundraiser provides the donor with only truthful information in a precisely formulated form that is easy to understand. If its activity requires the writing of a contractual document with the donor, it communicates all the terms of the contractual relationship clearly and legibly. If the fundraiser carries out a public collection in the form of the sale of souvenir items, it is obliged to truthfully inform the donor about the price of the item being sold, the amount of the contribution and the purpose that C4C supports.
2. The fundraiser respects the donor and his/her refusal, does not exploit the donor’s weaknesses, does not emotionally blackmail or exert pressure.
The C4C Fundraiser must not harass the donor or act or behave in a manner that could be considered violent, threatening, hateful or offensive. He/she manages stressful situations, has his/her emotions under control, respects rejection, acts and behaves effectively. He/she is obliged to deal with the donor politely, helpfully and not to put pressure on him/her. The Fundraiser is obliged to contribute to creating an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust, without which it is impossible to carry out the fundraising activities of C4C.
3. The fundraiser exclusively addresses donors who are acceptable to the organization.
The fundraiser does not abuse his influence, position and trust of donors for personal gain at the expense of others. When approaching donors, he acts according to his best knowledge and conscience. (He does not approach donors who it is clear in advance that they cannot meet their obligations.)
4. The Fundraiser will only accept donations that are consistent with the type of activity it performs and whose intended use is consistent with the mission and ethical rules of the organization.
– The Fundraiser is only authorized to accept donations that C4C has been approved to accept –for example, he/she will not accept cash if it only has been authorized to directly talk to the donor for the purpose of a non-cash donation (by standing order, etc.).
5. The Fundraiser acts in a way that does not endanger C4C, its good name, or harm other organizations.
a) The Fundraiser protects C4C’s intellectual property – it respects that significant and non-public ideas, strategies and other business information that originated with C4C, or the agency that mediates fundraising for C4C, are legally protected properties.
b) The Fundraiser will not misuse confidential inside information – all information relating to the relationship between C4C, the agency entrusted by C4C to carry out the public collection and the Fundraiser is considered confidential. The Fundraiser will not use such information unlawfully for the purpose of obtaining financial advantage.
c) The fundraiser avoids conflicts of interest – the fundraiser does not collaborate with other non-profit organizations. Exceptions can only be granted by the C4C management.
d) The Fundraiser does not use addictive substances – the use of drugs or addictive substances during working hours may lead to significant damage to the reputation of C4C, or to significant financial loss. The Fundraiser may not work under the influence of narcotics, psychotropic and other addictive substances or alcohol.
6. C4C’s Fundraisers comply with the laws of the Czech Republic or the laws of the countries in which it operates as part of its work.
7. The Fundraiser protects the property and working materials of C4C entrusted to him.
a) If the fundraiser uses C4C property and working materials for his/her activities (brochures, leaflets, contract forms, ID card, C4C Power of Attorney, souvenirs for sale approved by the C4C board, cash register), he/she shall take care of the entrusted property and working materials with due care and in such a way as to prevent their theft, misuse or loss.
b) The Fundraiser equally protects and is responsible for the funds collected by a public collection held in the form of a sale of souvenirs. The fundraiser is not authorized to freely manipulate the collected funds (donations); the sealed money box may only be opened by a person specially authorized for this purpose by C4C, or by an agency that mediates fundraising for C4C. Intentional or negligent violation, or a sign of deterioration of the protective elements (seal or lock on money box) is considered a gross violation of the fundraiser’s obligations. The fundraiser is obliged to hand over the collected funds to the agency authorized by C4C to carry out and implement the public collection on a daily basis.
8. The Fundraiser complies with the sales rules and other related regulations of the agency that carries out the fundraising for C4C.
a) C4C Fundraiser Dress Code – the fundraiser cares about its image and appearance, he/sheis aware that one of the pillars of trust and satisfaction, and therefore the success of the C4C Fundraiser, is a professional approach, which also includes dress standards. The C4C team places great emphasis on the well-groomed appearance of employees and external workers, which corresponds to the general standards of tasteful and elegant work attire. For meetings with third parties, or if the situation requires it, more formal clothing is desirable.

c) The fundraiser uses working hours effectively – The long-term success of the C4C team lies primarily in the efficiency of its workforce. The C4C team creates conditions for its employees and external partners so that they can perform their work with due diligence during working hours. Employees and external collaborators must respect and use working hours effectively; only activities that are beneficial to C4C may be performed. These activities are stipulated in labor law and internal regulations.
9. The Fundraiser shall notify the location of his/her work in advance – Before performing his/her activities in a public space, the Fundraiser is obliged, if necessary or appropriate, to give notification of the location of his/her work to the relevant authority and always to C4C.
10. The fundraiser always expresses gratitude, in a timely and appropriate manner.
Thanking a donor is not only a sign of good manners on the part of the fundraiser, but also a sign of respect for the donor and their interest in supporting C4C activities.
11. The Fundraiser protects the dignity, safety and rights of the people for whom the organization carries out its activities.
12. The fundraiser educates him/herself in this field and strives to cultivate the profession.
III. The weight of the code
C4C Ethics and Fraud Policy
In a constantly changing environment or as a result of internal and external pressures, errors or violations of rules and regulations may occur, whether intentional or negligent. In line with its ethical and fraud policies, C4C has a zero tolerance policy towards fraud .
The C4C Code of Ethics applies to all C4C employees and external collaborators, regardless of the form of their relationship to C4C and is an important criterion for evaluating their professional activities. Each individual is aware that by violating the code, they will damage the good name of the organization, the Chance 4 Children brand and possibly other C4C activities and are thus subject to fines, including a possible request for compensation for the damage caused. Sanctions, fines and penalties arising from failure to comply with ethical principles and the law of the Czech Republic are borne by the C4C fundraiser at their own and personal responsibility.
