Kids helping kids. How youngsters from children´s homes brighten the days for kids in hospitals.

16.04.2021

Already last year, we informed you about the remarkable cooperation that is taking place between homes for the elderly, children´s homes and children in hospitals. Grandmothers in Písek started crocheting beautiful dolls, which traveled through C4C´s Dr. Clown program, ending up with the children in the Písek Hospital. A home for the elderly in Unhošť also joined the activity – there, for a change, grandmothers produced cats, which were distributed to hospitalized children in the Kladno hospital.

After these initial successes, we were wondering how to move this unifying activity forward. In the past, children from children’s homes produced various things for old folks from various senior facilities, so it occurred to us that they could similarly also make children in hospitals happy.

Consequently, in their ceramic and art classes, they began to create small gifts for children who are currently being treated in hospitals. Sometimes they even add a short message to it, such as GET HEALTHY SOON, YOU ARE BRAVE, HANG IN THERE, etc.

Children are excited to be able to help this way,” says Petra Erguvanli, coordinator of the Springboard to Life C4C program. “They feel needed, which is a new and joyful feeling for them.”

Unfortunately, the current situation does not allow clowns to fully enter hospitals or children’s homes. Despite these complications, however, we try to maintain this activity, and after a long time, a batch of clown dolls from children´s home in Nové Strašecí was delivered to children in the Kladno hospital.

“Since 1993, I have been part of the Dr. Clown team in the Kladno hospital,” smiles Rafal Wojas, co-founder of C4C. “But this time I went there as a photographer, so I had the opportunity to watch the reactions of children who were visited by our clowns. What a joy it was when they brought them happiness and laughter! At the end of each visit, our little patients received ceramic clowns, which were made for them by children in the children´s home in Nové Strašecí. When they heard that they were being sent to them by children who thought of them and wished them a quick recovery, it really touched their hearts and they sent their thanks to them through our clowns. I am really glad that I can be a part of an initiative that brings change to the lives of all these children. Many thanks to the children from the children’s home in Nové Strašecí for thinking about others, even if they do not have it easy in their own lives. Really, hat down.”

Next time, Rafal will head to the Písek Hospital with beautiful bells created by children from the Zvíkovské Podhradí children’s home.

So have a happy journey! 😊
