With vacation time over and everyone getting back into the saddle, so to speak, it’s time for everybody here at Chance 4 Children (C4C) too, to roll up their sleeves and get to work again. Here’s some news from all fronts, for those of you interested in the latest:
ROBIN HOOD:
As international ROBIN HOOD shipments came pouring in during the summer months, our storage is filled to the brim with over 40 pallets of brand new goods ready for sorting and distribution to orphanages in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bosnia. Far from lazing around, we used the holidays to re-organize the Chance 4 Childrenstorage, which could hardly take any more goods coming in. Besides incredible amounts of brand new “cool” clothing, there are also thousands of pairs of new shoes and winter boots available – in expectation of the long Central European Winter that seems to be closing in with rapid strides. (On a lighter note, we actually spotted chocolate Santas in a store today – it’s September, for crying out loud! We thought dealing in futures was something particular to the Stocks and Bonds trade?) SPRINGBOARD TO LIFE:
Springboard to Life (STL) teaching activities are back on track as well after the summer break, as the children in Orphanages were very much looking forward to their teachers coming around again. Jana Snoblova (see picture below), our popular Household Science teacher, came back from class today, looking exhausted with barely any voice left. “They asked so many questions, my voice gave out after an hour”, was her comment. Read more here about C4C’s STL program. The STL program currently employs eight teachers, who are busy traveling on a regular basis to far flung institutions with resident children, teaching languages like English, essential life skills, household sciences, music, dancing and computer literacy. In a separate program, in conjunction with “Haircity” hairstyle salons, interested orphans, from age 16 on upward, can enroll in Haircity’s hairstyling academy to become professional hairstylists. C4C 2008 ANNUAL CHARITY CALENDAR:
Another project that kept us hopping during the summer holiday season, was the creation of the new 2008 C4C Annual Calendar, due to be released in late October.Photographed by noted celebrity and sports photographer Ondrej Pycha, the new calendar is sure to be a hit. With its central theme of “We all had our chance – let’s give them one too!” the calendar features world stars and celebrities who made themselves available for C4C to underscore the point that children raised in institutions are no second class citizen. Quite to the contrary, they have great potential that’s just waiting to be unleashed. Celebrities, like Manchester United star goalie Petr Čech, popular singer Lucie Bilá, Miss Czech Republic, former First Lady and Actress Dagmar Havlová, etc. (to just name a few), each posing in a special setting with their young, possible successors, to get the message out that these kids, if just given a chance, could be the next best soccer player, the next Hollywood star or the next chairman of the board. You name it – the sky’s the limit! On this page is a sneak preview of some of the pictures with Petr Čech and Lucie Bilá! Exciting!
As every year, the C4C Calendar is available for a donation to C4C programs for children in need. The minimum donation, much like last year, is 250 Kč or for international customers € 10!
