Year-end report, Springboard to Life initiative, by Petra Erguvanli, program manager:
Chance 4 Children (C4C), through the Springboard to Life program, is providing educational opportunities and mentorship to children in orphanages. Our team of 26 teachers makes a vital impact in the lives of young individuals across 19 children’s homes. Each month, C4C teachers provide around 367 hours of tutoring, and around 200 children visit our classes monthly.
Their dedication is amazing, and we are very grateful to say that some teachers have been with C4C for more than 20 years. The positive impact they have on the lives of the children and youngsters is significant.
C4C offers a wide range of courses designed to cater to the varied interests and needs of children:
- Five English teachers provide group and one-on-one tutoring, helping children build essential communication skills;
- IT courses help children with vital technological skills, while
- Drawing and art classes foster creativity and self-expression;
- Physical fitness and teamwork are encouraged through our sports programs;
- Three music classes in seven orphanages introduce children to the joys of music;
- Tutoring in subjects like math ensures that children receive the academic support they need to succeed;
- Girls are empowered with self-defense courses;
- Nature classes engage boys and girls with the natural world, including exploring butterflies and many other aspects of nature;
- Minecraft sessions teach problem-solving, systemic thinking and creativity in two orphanages;
- Dance Praha provides unique dance classes with live music, offering an enriching experience;
- Financial literacy courses teach children the basics of managing money, an essential life skill; and
- Ceramics and baking classes offer hands-on activities that teach practical home management skills and creativity.
All C4C teachers are also mentors, offering guidance, support and encouragement. They play a critical role in shaping the future of these children, helping them build confidence and develop a sense of direction in their lives.
