Adam – a mentoring story! “I like it when things connect in a positive way”, smiles mentor Marketa Franke

I’m going to tell you the story of a cool kid – I’ll call him Adam. It’s not his real name, because he doesn’t want to be perceived as “the guy from the orphanage“. We respect that. Adam had a challenging and troubled life – as his mother gave him up. However, with his father he actually has a healthy relationship. Considering the environment he´s coming from, Adam´s actually quite unusual – mainly because he is choosing his own way and taking his life into his own hands!

Driven by a desire to help his father, who is also facing challenges, Adam has been working a lot since he was 16. At the same time, he’s also trying to study. The children´s home is helping him and we here at Chance 4 Children are trying to help him too. For example, by trying to find him a sponsor to pay his tuition fees at a private college.

One day, Adam approached us, making it known that he needed a mandatory internship for his school. He is studying management and marketing and it was hard for him to find and evaluate contacts on his own. I’m the co-owner of Behavee, a start-up company that simplifies marketing for e-commerce stores, so I offered Adam an internship and part-time job in that area.

And everything connected beautifully 😊

“It’s been amazing to watch Adam learn and engage so quickly,” said Juraj Hallon, Head of Marketing at Behavee, about the collaboration. “How he’s able to be responsible with tasks. He´s not shy to ask about things that could push him and I tried to make all our experiences and knowledge available to him. I was surprised myself at how maturely he communicated and fit in with the team, even in the difficult conditions of online work due to the pandemic.”

Adam finished his internship in Behavee at the end of June. We all evaluated the 10 months of cooperation more than positively. Adam learned a lot – among other things how a start-up company works. Maybe one day he will start his own business.

That would be the most beautiful continuation of our story 😊.
