Bridge Academy, children’s homes and a world full of blocks

06.07.2021

A few months ago C4C started a meaningful collaboration with Bridge Academy – a group of enthusiasts in the field of education for children and young people. Their vision is to connect technical education with practice in a fun way. Two years ago they created the Minecraft Programming Club and now they offer all over the country a virtual club called Virtual Minecraft Programming and Minecraft-themed suburban camps.

Their game-based educational methods help children understand the computer world and the logic of programming. They can open up new paths and possibilities and find their way in life more easily.

Thanks to them, we have been able to offer children from orphanages virtual programming after-school programs in Minecraft – a virtual world of bricks that has a huge number of fans all over the world. It was designed for all enthusiasts from 7 to 15 years old.

The first lesson of the program, which will have a total of 8 lessons, started on 5.4.2021.

Here´s what the children learned in the process:

– Create logic circuits using Redstone.

– Program and automate using Command block.

– Work with coordinates.

– The basics of programming.

– New English vocabulary.

– Work in a team.

Because of school closures, children had to spend too much time in front of the computer, and both the directors of the orphanages and we here at C4C did not want to extend that time. That’s why we chose only those kids who determinedly wanted to get better at Minecraft…

The children who took part in the program were enthusiastic, and have already gone on to further their virtual education,” says Petra Erguvanli, coordinator of Chance 4 Children’s Springboard to Life program.

The Bridge Academy’s priority is equal access for all children who unfortunately, due to their situation, are not able to further their technical education,” adds Alena Polívková, Bridge Academy’s programme coordinator. “Children are our priority and our future. Our “motto” is the children’s satisfaction and, above all, enabling them to learn and integrate among their peers. Working with C4C in this way will give us the opportunity to meet these children and build on our successful cooperation in supporting technical education. Based on our Scholarship Programme and our cooperation with companies, we believe that we will be able to expand the group of children who will be able to integrate and learn in a field that is very important for our future.”

P.S. Like all of our services, also teachers and mentors of C4C are supplied free of charge to children´s homes.
