A Life-Changing Journey Across Europe!
Europe is more than a place on a map – it is a state of mind! At Chance 4 Children (C4C), we aim to give young people from children’s homes and foster care the same opportunities as their peers. This July, in partnership with DiscoverEU – an Erasmus+ initiative – we embarked on an eight-day journey that became far more than just travel.
DiscoverEU allows young people to explore Europe by train, experience new cultures, and build a sense of European identity. For our participants, however, it was also a journey toward independence, confidence, and social inclusion.
Our adventure began in Prague, continuing through Berlin to Amsterdam, where the group enjoyed a unique surprise – accommodation on a boat. One of the most unforgettable highlights came during a day trip to The Hague. With beautiful weather and wide sandy beaches, many participants saw the sea for the very first time. The joy and excitement of that moment captured the true impact of the experience.
From the Netherlands, we traveled to Paris, where dreams came alive beneath the illuminated Eiffel Tower. To ensure smoother connections, the journey concluded in Munich – rounding off a route filled with discovery, learning, and growth.
Traveling together proved to be a true “school of life”. Beyond sightseeing, participants faced real-world challenges, from navigating busy stations to handling a stressful train transfer in Belgium and staying alert to pickpocket risks. These moments strengthened their resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. Without classrooms or textbooks, they practiced languages, made decisions independently, and learned to rely on themselves – and each other.
They returned home with far more than photos and souvenirs – they brought back confidence, new friendships, and broader horizons that will support their transition into adulthood.
Here at C4C, we are deeply grateful to DiscoverEU and Erasmus+ for making this experience possible. Together, we are opening doors for young people who might otherwise never have such opportunities – and proving that the greatest barriers are often only in our minds.
