It is with a sense of profound sadness and loss that we announce that C4C’s Milos Janata has passed away in a boating accident on March 30th 2012.

A young man full of ambition and a deep sense of social responsibility, Milos was also an ardent canoeing enthusiast. He was tragically killed last week when his canoe, which he manned with three friends, capsized in rough waters, wind and snow navigating the river Kamenici, near Jablonec. His friends managed to swim to safety, while Milos was initially declared missing. His body was found several hours after the accident, two kilometers downstream, after a frantic search by fire fighters.

“To say that we were shocked is an understatement”, comments Manfred Franke, founder and chairman of C4C. “We actually first thought that somebody had sprung an April 1st joke on us, howbeit, in very bad taste. We simply could not believe it.”

For the past 2 ½ years, Milos (31) had been teaching Computer Literacy classes for C4C in orphanages around Prague in a part time capacity. Given his enthusiasm and dedication for his work, he was recently offered to join C4C in a full time management position. His first work day in his new job should have been Monday, April the 2nd.

“Having unexpectedly lost two relatively young, close friends of mine during the last two years alone, Milos’ passing does instill a sense of urgency in me. It serves as a reminder for any of us to make the best possible use of our time here on earth – none of us knows how long our journey will last”, says Manfred Franke.

Milos will be sorely missed – by many! We offer our sincere and deepest condolences to his immediate family, relatives and close friends and are with them in thoughts and prayers during this difficult and trying time.
